Elementary School

The curriculum is focused on core courses in Bible, Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies, with concentration on the writing process, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development. A high value is placed on collaboration, with all departments working together to encourage and support each student’s personal and academic maturation.

VIEW OUR CURRICULUM

Students have the opportunity to explore their love for the Arts in elementary school through weekly art and music classes, as well as through drama and worship arts experiences.  Students in kindergarten through 4th grade attend art one day a week for 45 minutes.  During art, students are taught the elements of design such as line, shape, color, form, value, space, and texture by creating various projects.  These projects are completed using several different processes such as drawing, painting, pottery, printmaking, and sculpture.  In the spring, each student has a piece of art work displayed during our annual Celebration of the Arts event that represents one of their best projects from the year.

One of the favorite annual events is the Fall Storytelling Competition. Any student in grades 3-6 may audition to be in the festival, and three students are selected from each grade.  These students tell stories using their dramatic talents and are judged by a team of local celebrity judges. The students are trained under the direction of Mrs. Tonya Wilson.

Grace Christian Academy reached new academic heights through its first Broadway Junior Production, Annie Junior. The GCA Elementary School list of performances include The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Music Man Junior, School House Rock, Little Mermaid Junior, Frozen, Jr., and more. These productions have allowed our students to participate in a first-class musical experience with a strong dramatic emphasis.

GCA offers academic support through morning support time as well as through our Learning Center.  The Learning Center is to meet students at the point of their need and help move them to the peak of their potential.  At an additional fee above tuition, students may receive tutoring services during their school day to either provide a level of academic support or to promote academic acceleration. 

Students with a current diagnosed disability that impacts educational learning may also be eligible to receive classroom accommodations through a formal educational plan (Learning plan or 504 plan).

Tutoring support is available to any student at an additional cost. Fees are billed through the GCA FACTS system each month.

The GCA Learning Center Tutoring Support is available for K-8 and subject specific.

Weekly Special Areas courses are offered in physical education, art, music, STEM and library.

Since students need strong bodies to fuel strong minds, all Elementary School students have a daily recess period in addition to weekly physical education classes. Recess is viewed as an opportunity for instruction, a time for children to practice interaction with peers when adults are present but not actively involved.

Service begins in the Elementary School, with a sequence of projects and trips that give students a sense of their potential, even at a young age, to contribute in the world. In addition to joining activities at East TN Children's Hospital and Operation Christmas Child, students also work within their own classroom community and post reminders of standards, such as holding doors for others, around the building.
