Meet our Head of School

Dr. Tony Pointer has been a familiar face on the Grace Christian Academy and Grace Baptist Church campus for decades.  If you’ve been a student at GCA, had a child enrolled, or been involved at the church or school, you have likely interacted with Dr. Pointer and his family.

Dr. Tony Pointer first felt his call to ministry at the age of 19.  As a young man, he “had no idea what God had in store” for his life but he knew that at that point, his initial calling was to prepare.  After first attaining an associate degree, Dr. Pointer completed several degrees that intensified his firm biblical foundation, beginning with a Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Ministry Preparation from Johnson University.  He went on to accomplish a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and later, a Doctor of Educational Ministry from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a concentration in Educational Ministry and Leadership.

Dr. Pointer has been an integral part of the GCA faculty since 2005.  In addition to his primary role as Upper School Bible instructor, he has served as Director of Spiritual Life and currently serves as the Bible Department Chairperson and Director of Worldview and Biblical Integration.  His love for authentic biblical teaching and Christian education is evident in his work beyond the classroom at GCA, from his prior experience as a student pastor and current role as adjunct professor at Johnson University.

Mrs. Julie Pointer, married to Tony since 2000, has also been a dedicated member of the Grace Christian Academy faculty and staff since 2002.  She has served in the classroom, administration, and held an instrumental role in the continued accreditation process of the school.  The Pointers are wholeheartedly committed to the mission and vision of Grace Christian Academy and passionate about the impact that Christian education can have on the lives of students.  This is evidenced in the fact that they’ve chosen GCA for their own children, Isaiah and Micah, who have been a part of the program since Mother’s Day Out.

Dr. Pointer’s formal preparation, coupled with classroom experience, academic leadership roles, small group teaching, and preaching have further strengthened his passion for Christian education and confirmed that distinctive calling on his life.  As he described in his introduction as GCA Incoming Head of School, his calling is embodied in Ezra 7:10, which says, “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.”   Dr. Pointer went on to explain that God is calling him to serve.  “I am called to serve the administration, faculty, parents, and students of GCA during our next season of ministry.  As our mission statement declares, I truly believe God is calling me to LEAD our administration, faculty, parents, and students to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, to BUILD them up in their full potential in Him, and to EQUIP them to serve Him.”

With a wide range of leadership roles, ministry experiences, and extensive education, Dr. Tony Pointer is fully equipped to lead Grace Christian Academy in the days ahead.  As he enters this new season of ministry, he is enthusiastic.  “I am honored, I am humbled, and I am looking forward to being able to SERVE you and to SERVE with you in the next stage of our journey together.”
