Brent Walsh Named US Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Athletics Director
GCA Marketing and Communications

Grace Christian Academy is pleased to announce the 2007 and 2008 South Carolina High School Coach of the Year, Brent Walsh, as the Upper School Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Director of Athletics.  Coach Walsh, with almost 20 years in coaching, has extensive college experience at College of Charleston and UNC Asheville. He comes to us highly recommended, not only for his long list of baseball accolades, but for his high character and faithful leadership.

As a high school baseball coach at Ben Lippen Christian School and Richland Northeast High School, Coach Walsh boasts six conference titles, four visits to state championship series, two state championship titles, and two national top five finishes coaching the SC Diamond Devils travel team in Perfect Game National Tournaments.

“As we looked for the right baseball coach for GCA, a godly man who knows how to win was at the top of the list. Coach Walsh brings experience and a strong track record.” Marcus Dilligard, GCA Director of Athletics, said.

After his stint in high school baseball, Coach Walsh transitioned to Division 1 at the College of Charleston where he assisted the team in national top five finishes in homeruns each year, a Southern Conference Regular Season Championship, and 2nd and 3rd place finishes in NCAA Tournament Regionals.

After four years at the College of Charleston, Coach Walsh went to UNC Asheville for two years where he helped increase offensive statistics in several categories such as doubles per game. In his six years coaching Division 1 baseball he helped lead his teams to victories over traditional power houses such as University of South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn, Coastal Carolina, NC State and many others.

“The Lord has been faithful to bring such a high caliber baseball coach to GCA who cares about developing players’ skills and fundamentals, winning, and discipling young men into strong leaders for Christ.”  said Matt Mercer, GCA Head of School.

Most recently, Coach Walsh was an assistant coach with the Anderson County High School Baseball program where offensive production was boosted across the board and the Mavericks won the Region Championship for the first time in 14 years.

Help us welcome Coach Walsh, his wife Jenny, and their three children, Gideon (10), Eden (7), Simeon (4).
