Finding Joy in the Ordinary
Teri Rash

One of GCA's longtime vendors has had employees stationed in Cookeville, Tennessee completing work on a project.  The company owners, who are former GCA parents and GBC members, received a compelling text from the project foreman who experienced the devastating tornado that recently struck the area and witnessed the unbelievable destruction.

Even as the storm began to subside, he and a teammate spent the rest of the night going door to door assisting people in need.  When they returned to the area of destruction the next day, he was so deeply moved that he sent the following text to his boss back in Knoxville.  Those who have read his reflections have been touched and inspired by his words.

"During lunch I was able to get through National Guard check point and go to the neighborhood I was staying when the tornado hit. Totally sobering. I'm still somewhat processing the whole event...which I get to walk away from and am not left to put the pieces back together. I however want to first say I love you guys and I’m thankful that I’ve been a part of this Interstate (Mechanical Contractors) family for 15 years.

Second, it struck me that we mostly live in the normal wishing and looking for the extraordinary, the next big thing. When this extraordinary event happened and had settled, all I wanted was the normal...it’s the everyday ordinary, normal and sometimes mundane things done well that accumulate to make extraordinary marriages, families, churches, companies and relationships to God. Be great at the normal things." -Ryan, Interstate Mechanical Contractors

Isn't it true?  We are so often focused on the next big event in our lives, waiting and anticipating some future moment in time that we are not even guaranteed.  In the meantime, we can miss the beautiful moments God gives us every day, moments that are ordained and a gift to be used wisely by our Creator.

Don't miss the beauty in the "everyday moments".  Be faithful in the small things and in the seemingly unremarkable moments of life.  As Ryan so powerfully articulated, it's faithfulness in those small things that God can use to make marriages, families, and schools an extraordinary display of His work.
