Boys: Regular season ended playing 12 out of 14 scheduled matches. 2 canceled due to weather. We came out victorious in 6 of the 12 matches. 4 of the losses came against strong competition, Alcoa, (2) CAK, Webb and Catholic. There was strong, healthy competition within the team during the home stretch of the season. Based on season scoring averages, 3 players had to battle it out for 2 spots heading into post season. Proud of Luke Severs, he had a tough middle of the season stretch, but kept fighting and finished out his senior season the right way. Districts were held on 9/19 at Three Ridges. Our two top players, Michael and Avery lead the team in scoring with 77 and 79 respectfully. Luke Severs had a 84 which was consistent with his season scoring average. Regions were played on 9/26 at Three Ridges. Avery Alexander led the team with a 74 and earned a spot in the State Championship. His performance has been very consistent throughout the year and is clearly our #1 player. He earned a #4 place medalist finish. All the other boys played hard and more importantly had a positive winning attitude during their rounds. Wyatt Edwards came back from a 93 in districts with a 76 in regions. His improvement was a result of his determination of having to earn his way into the regional tournament. He came so close to earning a spot in the State Championship but ultimately lost in a playoff to advance.
Girls: Very proud of our girls, Virginia Pirkle and Taylor Carter. Both embraced the season with their commitments to improvement and competition. Virginia had a season average of 45 and Taylor had a 46. Thrilled to have Taylor as part of the team. She brings a great competitive spirit and dedication to improving. Districts were held at Three Ridges, finished 3rd as a team. They were disappointed in their eventual score. Motivated to play better they came back with a runner up finish the following week in Regions and earned a spot in the State Championship, the first girls’ team we’ve had a state since in 4+ years. Virginia had a 3rd place medalist finish with a 86 and Taylor had a gritty, never give up 5th place medalist finish with a 91.
Excited that GCA has representation at the State Tournament with Avery, Virginia and Taylor competing. Go Rams!
